Overview:

On the 21st October, the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, following the 1st Battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, moved to Pyongyang. Progress through the city was very slow due to numerous traffic jams. Commencing on the 22nd October, the 27th British Commonwealth Brigade, under command of the 24th US Division, would re-assume the role of leading elements of I Corps with the object of linking up with the Airborne units in the vinicity of Yongju and continuing the advance along that main axis Pyongyang-Sukchon-Chongju to the border city of Sinuiji on the Yalu River. In fact, on the 20th October, 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team dropped at Sukchon to cut the retreat route of the KPA. An element of the AB RCT was moving south to meet the advancing 24 US Division. The 3RAR was the leading Battalion of the Brigade. On the 22nd October, the battalion commenced to advance to Yongju. C Company (commanded by Captain A. Denness) was leading, with D Company, 89th Medium Tank Battalion under its command.
