Overview:

The Sixth Army was being bled white amidst the ruins. The rifle strength of whole companies was often reduced to little more than a squad in an attempt to take a single house. The battle lines were now drawn through the hallways of individual buildings rather than by street or city blocks. The Germans decided to bring in fresh specialized units for the final assault; five battalions of elite pioneers specially trained in street fighting and veterans of the bitter street battles of Voronezh were summoned to take the last stubborn outposts between the machine shops of the Barrikady Gun Factory and the Volga. However, the pioneers of Major Rettenmaier had never seen a battle the equal of that for the “Commissar’s House”.

Lee set up really well, with a lot of strong defensive positions around his flanks. Thankfully, he also got incredibly unlucky early on, and I managed to get a very strong on my left, with my right running into some resistance but making progress. I had a couple hiccups (including losing my 10-2 on a double sniper trigger), but I had also managed to drop Lee's SAN to 5 with a sniper check. Unfortunately, things took a drastic turn soon after.

Lee had set up a single HIP unit in the three level tower out front of my DZ, and I had found it fairly early on. Instead of fighting it, I decided to leave it in place and just set a holding unit below it. On the ground floor, I had set up a 9-2, 8-3-8 with FT, and a 4-6-7 with my HMG to try and do some damage against the russian building. Around turn three, Lee got a very strong shot on them, breaking the lot (and CRing the squad/wounding the leader), and moved his upper floor unit down to force me out. He then took possession of my HMG and FT, using both to savage effect to break up my approach on either side. Around this time, I also got completely evicted on my right, leaving me with only my left flank to churn up. A few turns later (along with some absolutely HORRIFIC dice), and I called it with my entire assault in shambles, and Lee's units all pulled back into the main fortified building.

This scenario is one of my faves, and I would definitely play it again. Very solid meat and potatoes ASL, with some nice special rules thrown in.
