Overview:

The Allied invasion of Syria and Lebanon was conducted primarily by the 7th Australian Division, the 5th Indian Infantry Brigade and the brigade-strength Free French Division. A week later they were about ten miles south of Damascus but facing strong Vichy defenses. The veteran Indian brigade broke through to the city’s outskirts, only to find itself cut off and sorely pressed. On the right, the Free French seized all the steep, boulder-strewn Djebel el Kelb, save for Hill 740 which prevented them from coming to the Indians’ assistance. On the 20th, the Free French made another attempt to overcome this last barrier. . .

Despite having pushed their way onto the first level of hill 758 and dominating the entire west side with many broken defenders hiding in gullies on the east, the points stacked up to 31 for the Vichy victory by the bottom of turn 5.

2020-07-14(A) Eric Topp vs Ron Oxford Free French / British winThe Vichy set up well using Crest status in the wadis for Defensive Fire then dropping out of LOS. However they had poor luck and broke the HMG, MMG and both AT by turn 5. The H39 tanks survived several hits by the AT and numerous CC attacks. By turn 6, the Allies had captured two of the VC hexes and the Vichy conceded.
