Overview:

101st Airborne forces holding "Hell's Highway" were in an intense battle with German forces when a crippled British Sherman tank, which had dropped out of column due to mechanical issues, came charging in -- at five miles per hour. Afterward, when trying to thank him, tank commander James McCrory said, "When in doubt, lash out." His words became the unofficial motto for the 1st Battalion.
Attacker: German (1034th and 1036th Infanterie Regiments)

2021-03-25(A) Simon Staniforth vs German winThe Germans pushed strong to the South and were very much helped by a Sniper taking out the 9-2 with the accompanying squad manning the MMG failing its LLMC despite being Fanatic. This enabled a mass dash towards the exit board edge, the tank shot up some squads / HS but many more got through to be in a position to exit so the US player conceded
2020-12-24(A) Chris Anthony vs Rob MacGinley American / British winTense game. The Americans did just enough to keep fires on board edge so that when the Germans made their final push there was too many shots and too many failed MCs. The Sherman moved once, then just sat on the road and shot away at anything that moved on the top of the map, while the Paratroopers held the line on hedge, then fell back to the copse of trees to make their final stand. It worked.

2020-04-03(D) Jeff B vs Steve Etzelmueller American / British winAmericans have a tough choice at setup, having to balance exposing themselves to some big shots with preventing the Germans from getting a quick jump-off. One necessity is preventing the German MMG from reaching the only Level 1 locations on Turn 1. I did so, allowing my men to beat a hasty withdrawal to the hedgerow. I severely underestimated the value of my tank, and never imagined it would drive onboard, park in the road, and never move again. First course of action was to drop smoke on the MMG nest, and this it did with its one and only smoke round. American MMG FLs proved instrumental in their defense. Without this there would be no game. Midgame saw the Germans make steady progress through the grain, with the Americans contesting them along the hedgerow. Turn 6 saw them finally overtake it, but at that point the Americans just broke and blocked the southern exit with a wall of bodies, while the north was garrisoned by the tank and a couple HS. It would strictly come down to the dice at this point, and the Americans got the better end. Certainly a dicey little scenario, with the Americans being extremely vulnerable if hit with bad luck.
