Overview:

After capturing Tobruk in June, Field Marshal Rommel pressed into Egypt with Panzer-Armee Afrika. The Desert Fox was trying one last big push towards the Nile before supply difficulties would make it impossible to conduct further offensive action. -- Scenario 1 of 3 in the Line In The Sand mini-campaign.

2026-05-30(A) John Garlic vs Christian Hofland New Zealand winI attacked with my German/Italian forces too spread out. Should've massed at one point. Christian had an excellent defense in depth which whittled us down.
2025-09-07(A) Vic Lauterbach vs JM German/Italian winIn the LiS opener, I drew the Axis. Our extra force picks were predictable: OBA and Grants for Jim and OBA and Panzer Specials for me. Predictably, neither of us hit anything early, until our OBA came in. It fired for the whole game! I drove along the track with the Italians. Their sappers worked on the mines while the M14/41s drew Jim's AT fire. My DAK force went into the gullies along the south edge with the AFVs on their right. The Panzers risked the wire, but the rest drove around it. Miraculously, I only lost one M14/41 until I got to 30/31I. Smoke from wrecks shielded my dash off the board, and a PzIIIH exiting in my GT7 MPh gave me 48 exit DVP. Overall, it was fun, but Jim's high OBA IFT rolls kept me in the game. Jim: Due to the extra +1 LV hindrance on the half boards, I setup to draw Vic into a kill zone at 30/31I-Q. Too many +4 and +5 TH DRs through dust, FFEs and wreck smoke! I had to rush everything south to block and I got there too late. Decent game but too easily dominated by OBA. I needed more OBA KIAs to win.
2025-02-25(D) M T vs V.K. New Zealand winDoing setup for this one as the New Zealanders was interesting, I have never played a game with so many mine factors. I decided to go with a wide belt of Strength 1 AT mines.

The game itself was an interesting experience, with Broken Terrain and Medium Dust mixing things up. It's very hard to hit things with Dust in effect. Ultimately, the game came down to the Axis probably being too careful around my mine belt.

I got the Valentines and 3xFB, the Axis took the Stukas and some half-track infantry. Rarely enough, we even had a Dogfight in the game, with a Stuka shooting down one of my fighter-bombers!
2024-12-13(A) Mark McG vs Dave Wilson German/Italian winA desert game, but with the F13.1 Broken terrain it became a task of threading the Axis column down a track, through a minefield, and then down a clear path to race along the board edge to victory. Essentially this was a parade along a designated path to exit.
The 88 held the Valentines to behind the hillocks, and the Medium dust made hitting a dicefest. Even hits tended to bounce off. Axis lost a M14/41 and a PzIIIh, whilst the Kiwis lost a few infantry, one Bofors to a malfunction, the other to a critical hit from the 88, and a Valentine to a Critical Hit from a PzIIIh.
Axis fighters entered, but did precious little, whilst the Allied air support never arrived. All over by Axis Turn 5.
This was not he wide ranging, long range desert battle I hoped for. Very much a process of clearing a path to the exit through clouds of dust.
