Overview:

In October of 1941, Lord Louis Mountbatten took command of the Special Service Brigade. In accordance with a directive from Churchill, Mountbatten was to begin a “programme of raids in ever increasing intensity”. The first, a raid on the Lofoten Islands would be diversionary, covering the primary target of Vaagso Island. Arriving offshore, in the grey twilight of the scandinavian winter, the Commandos were divided into five groups for the assault. Group 1 would land south of Vaagso, moving inland to guard the southern flank of the direct seaborne assault of Group 2. At 0850 hours, the Commandos of Group 2 began their run-in to shore under a protective naval bombardment.

2021-05-07(A) Shane Pask vs German winInteresting scenario with replay potential. Poms may have won with the British Balance (1 extra turn). As it was, the German resistance was practically overcome but the commandos still needed to reach 11 buildings on the last turn. With the added MP for elevation changes during snow this was out of reach (also still had to burn one building on board 8 - the other 3 were well alight).
The MMG squad was a menace generating 2 heroes before falling to CC on turn 8. I found it difficult to find a spot for the NOBA and Stokes mortar with reasonable fields of view – the multi story buildings on board 8 are an effective screen for the NOBA and the minimum range of 6 for the mortar was a pain. I never assembled it and finally abandoned it as too heavy to lug up hill.
2020-05-24(D) Michael Rodgers vs Magnus Rimvall German winMeaty scenario best played over VASL because of the terrain changes.

2011-08-13(A) Steffen Knippel vs Josh Gilbert British winYou don't often see seaborne assaults in Norway. This one is fun!
