Overview:

During the pre-dawn hours the U.S. 7th Army successfully landed at both Licata and Gela. Unaware of each others plans, the Italians and Germans began a series of uncoordinated attacks against the Americans with the intention of breaking through to the beachhead. In the Gela area, the Italians were attacking with a mobile armored force while on the eastern edge of the invasion came two columns of the Hermann Goring FallschirmPanzer Division. One of these columns was busy engaging the Americans at Piano Lugo, the other attacked the inexperienced 45th “Thunderbird” Division at Biscari Station. With their Tiger tanks unable to keep pace in the dense olive groves of the region, the German infantry would have to overwhelm the Americans without armor support.
Attacker: German (Panzergrenadier Regiment 1, Hermann Göring FallschirmPanzer Division)
Defender: American (1st Batt., 180th Regiment, 45th Division and scattered elements of the 82nd Airborne)

2024-08-22(A) Nicolas Leste-Lasserre vs American win
2024-04-04(D) Matt Quinton vs James German winAmerican mortar covered the east of the map, with heavier forces on the west.

German forces kept at bay for the first 3 turns, but rolled boxcars on the mortar - the minute that was put of action they swarmed across CX, easily getting enough off the board, while the forces on the west failed to do any real damage.

2023-11-04(D) Klara Kundzicz vs Benjamin Steinberg American win

(VASL Log)
I won turn 1, this is one of my favourite scenarios becaufe of the American mortars but i had no chance to use them. My oponent conceded and they would be eliminated due to failure to rout anyway.
2023-08-05(D) Justin DiSabatino vs American winThe Americans set up occupying DD7 and EE5 in force, with a lone 7-4-7 on Z2 to delay and the mortar in the south-east corner. The entire plan was to let the Germans enter and then make each move out of the hills/buildings into open ground costly. The fact that the Americans can win through enough casualty VP makes this possible.

It was still a close run game, but the American 7-4-7 routed, rallied, took a 20/+1 shot and survived, stalling the German left flank for three turns. In the middle and German right, a determined advance was thrown back repeatedly by a few well-rolled American shots that broke the German forces. The other Americans bled the Germans dry a half squad at a time for the win. Next time, I would have the Germans spread out more and rush the Americans to force the issue.
2023-04-26(D) Andreas R vs Jenny American win
2023-04-17(D) Andreas Brueckner vs Rick Runner American winString of bad dice rolls on the american side. It was to fun experiment with the Bazookas. Learning, never let a 9-1 recover from DM if broken.
2023-02-20(A) Brett wxyz vs German win
2022-09-29(D) Jack Wilson vs Bob T. American winAlthough I've played most of the SK1-3 scenarios by now, this is one of the few I had skipped over. It turns out that it is a tightly balanced (IMO) and challenging scenario. I highly recommend it be tried at least once.

As is evidenced by a quick glance at the starting OB, the Americans are not only outnumbered 2-1, but also quite under-gunned. The only SW of any impact is the 60mm mtr with its enticing 3 ROF that promises (in my case, empty ones) exciting rate tears. This is another scenario where the designer saw fit to give the Americans a couple of bazookas. With no AFVs in play, and only a couple of buildings to possibly target in the first turn or two, these iconic weapons are all but worthless. But the Americans look cool toting them around!

SK11 is a standard "Attacker has to exit VP points to win." An important twist is that if the Amis can eliminate 11 German VP, they win. This little detail helps keep the German player from bull rushing the thin green line: he has to avoid too many of the dreaded -2 low odds shots.

The other compelling thing about this one is the terrain. The Germans enter on the north edge cluttered with buildings, woods, and two hills, and have to ramble 17 hexes to the finish line on the south edge. Once they clear the few buildings and two hills in the first third of the map, they essentially have two main routes to victory: one that requires crossing a large swath of OG before hitting a hindrance shelter grain field (the eastern path). And one that provides a grain field cover at first before forcing the attacking squads to make the final sprint across OG.

The American is eventually forced to garrison a thin strip of woods separating the two paths running north to south down the final third of the board.

Bob did an excellent job of driving me out of the first third of the board. I managed to break a couple units and picked up 3 VP. When my mortar scored a hit and broke a squad on my first shot, I had hopes that it was the start of something good. Unfortunately, on its next shot it Malf'd, and on its first repair dr, it X'd.

Bob decided to send forces down both wings with a nice leader led MG FG sitting back providing overwatch. At one point I had only 2 GO MMC. But after a fortunate RPh, the Americans pulled themselves together and got into a semblance of a defensive stance ready for the final onslaught.

Again, Bob executed the dash to the finish perfectly, and I really did not think I could stop him from getting the 9 VP off the board. After a flurry of DFFs he had 8 VP off and needed only one of two squads to make it. The game came down to two crucial attacks that I needed to win: a 2FP +1DRM that resulted in a Pin, and a 6FP +1 that resulted in a Break. The game literally came down to the last roll on the last turn.

Bob played an excellent game that could easily have gone his way. I see that Roar has this as tilted to the American side. Based on how close this one was, and especially how much depended on a few fortunate Ami DRs, I guess I would agree.

Still, if you are looking for a scenario to help bulk up your defensive tactics-toolbox, don't skip this little gem.
2022-08-08(A) Bob McKenna vs DrawGermans exited 10 pts. US elimated 11 pts. CC in turn 6. Great game
2022-08-08(A) Bob McKenna vs Robert Kroczynski Draw
2022-07-12(D) Alvaro Radigales vs Phineas American winThe German player tried to make a run for it through the gap to the East of the hill, but was caught in a punishing crossfire when a few American units redeployed. His desperate effort in the last phase was stopped dead by residual fire, confirming the Allied victory,

The US light mortar was absolutely useless for the entire duration of the scenario, and was eventually abandoned by the squad carrying it. One of the Bazookas, however, managed to get one good shot.
2022-06-15(A) Shane Pask vs German winOriginally planned on sending the majority of my force to the west where there was some cover. But dice rolls opened up the East flank and slowed the West so swung in that direction. This did two things: eased the pressure to the west where my kill stack got past the house covering the wheat field, and decimated my troops racing across the open ground. However, by turn 4 the last Yank squad broke and the way was unopposed to exit. Yanks managed 5 VP.
2022-04-25(D) Bob McKenna vs Robert Kroczynski American winUS secures right flank..Mortar team finally.zeros in on Germans in open ground , stop.2 or 3 German surges, sends them.back to woods. Great game
2022-04-10(A) Eric Partizan Eric vs German win
2022-03-21(D) Jim Liang vs Craig Renier American win
2022-03-21(A) Craig Renier vs Jim Liang American winThe Americans setup aggressively with nearly all units within 5 hexes of the German entry board edge. The Germans slammed into the American right flank driving two American squads out of the stone building covering the NE side. The Americans held their ground on the left and made a slow withdrawal on the right. The squads on the right found themselves surrounded, but withstood withering fire. After 3 turns, the Germans used a rear guard to finally clear these holdouts while the rest of the force attempted to bypass. It was at this point the German player forgot about the VCs and instead focused on attacking the American positions, sustaining casualties in doing so. The dice took advantage of this oversight. In Turn 5 a German MMC entered into CC with an American SMC and was subsequently eliminated. Realizing the error and seeing the Americans were not far from eliminating enough German units for a win, the German player shifted efforts and moved as quickly as possible for the board edge. The Germans still had a small rear guard which was keeping a strong American force from flanking the German advance and attacking from the rear. The Americans struck this rear guard. The Allies had a path to victory if they could maneuver to eliminate rout paths and then break enough of the German units. A German conscript laid down residual blocking the American's path. The last American unit able to reach the required hex, the 9-1 leader, was pinned by the residual. It seemed the Germans would be able to reach the board edge before the Americans could eliminate more German units. In the AFPh, the conscript CR'd, but the remaining HS survived the MC. And then, inside a stone building, the broken wounded leader failed his MC and wound check. The MMC with the leader failed the attack MC and then rolled box cars for the LLMC giving the Americans just enough VPs for a win.
2022-01-09(A) Kamil Dziarmaga vs American German winExtremely bloody on both sides.
2021-07-07(A) Craig Renier vs Gabe (Socks) German winThe German primary thrust was in the center. American Defensive Fire was ineffective. The American frontal forces attempted to slowly withdraw while delaying the German advance. But on Turn 3 German fire broke two squads and an leader leaving the American defense shattered. The American mortar was able to finally make some effect by keeping rate. But the damage was done. The German player won handily.
2021-05-13(A) Niels Ludvigsen vs Leif Plith Lauritsen American winThe germans just didn`t get past the american defence, and time ran out. Some very unlucky rolls from a German killstack, was the main reason they failed to advance.

2020-08-27(A) David Garvin vs Loic Gourdon American winWhat a match. I was able to exit 7 VP out of 9 required. It was that close!

2020-07-10(D) Dave Mareske vs Craig Renier German winTough one on the Americans. Germans had a couple key breaks on the Americans and were easily able to exit the required VPs by Turn 7.
2020-07-10(A) Craig Renier vs Dave Mareske German winGerman main thrust was on the American right flank while a small German force maneuvered around the American left flank. German advance was stymied mid board, but when the American mortar crew broke, the German forces were able to advance quickly to exit the board.

2017-06-25(D) Louis Langdeau vs Andrew S German winThings started off great, with me making a ton of rolls and breaking up a large portion of Andy's units. Unfortunately, I got a little cocky and tried to hit my CVP mark by throwing troops into him to push a few units off the board. After that, my ridiculous rolls dried up, and Andy started mopping up my remaining positions, piecemeal.

2013-03-01(D) Michael Focht vs David Garber American win
2012-10-21(D) O Ramaille vs German American winUS victory in Turn 2 ! Too many losses for the german in CC (12 Vps already for the american player). The german tried to attack the advanced outposts of the US who were way too strong for the germans, despite having broken their bazookas. There is nor more way to win the game for the germans. The game stopped at the end of turn 2.
2012-10-21(A) O Ramaille vs American American winThe germans broke through the left flank of the us lines and ran towards the south. Several units fixed the american defenders but they were too tough and inflict many casualties to the germans.
The germans exited 14 VPs but americans get 12 VPs, not enough for the germans to win the day.
