Overview:

The US drive toward San Jose began on the morning of February 1st. The main thrust was in the area of Munoz. Once again, the backbone of the Japanese defenses was formed on a number of tanks dug into hull down positions, supported by artillery and 47mm anti-tank guns in earth and sandbagged emplacements. The first attack was quickly driven to ground by fire from the Japanese tanks and artillery. But the Americans had resources and they were persistent. Progress remained slow, creeping from the cover of one irrigation ditch to the next across the fields.
