Overview:

Two days earlier, the Sixth Army led by Lt. Gen. Hube's 16th Panzer Division crashed into Stalingrad through the city's northernmost suburb of Rynok. The division made good progress, supported by the largest Luftwaffe raids of the year. On the 25th, Hube's men engaged the Russian 62nd Army again but faced stiffer resistance. In one sector, relatively unscathed by the air-raids, the Germans quickly broke through. The lead elements of the 16th Panzer Division were reinforced by divisional reserves as the Germans tried to exploit their initial gain. The Russians responded with surprising quickness and the battle quickly centered around a factory frantically defended by Russian workers and regular army units.
