Overview:
On 11 August, the recently organized 4th SS PanzerKorps (comprised of 3rd SS Panzer Division “Totenkopf” and 5th SS Panzer Division “Wiking”) commanded by SS Gruppenfuhrer Herbert Gille, moved north and deployed in blocking positions on a fifteen mile front between Tluszcz and Stanislawow. Gille correctly anticipated that the Soviets would renew their major thrusts across the Vistula to encircle Warsaw from the north and west. The Russians attacked on August 14th. Awaiting their assault were the well dug-in SS soldiers of Totenkopf.Attacker: Russian (5th Guards Tank Army)
