Overview:
By 23 December, the German Bulge offensive was reaching its peak. The 5th Panzer Army was racing for the Meuse river; lead elements of the 2nd Panzer Division were barely 10km from the crossings. There they were met and surrounded by the American 2nd Armored Division. A wild melee ensued as the Germans attempted to destroy the American armor and break out to complete their drive to the Meuse.
