Overview:

To the south of Borodino, the SS Das Reich was committed to several actions aimed at breaking the Soviet lines in order to rush towards the east. The Der Fuhrer Regiment, fighting on the southern flank of the Division, had regrouped and was to seize the village of Yudinki, whose forward defense consisted of some of the finest Russian youth - the Lenin Cadets.

2024-08-25(D) Bob McKenna vs Bill Curtis German (SS) winSS advanced steadily, using flanks. Russians should have set up.MG on the left to cover open field. Russians should have hidden in tje woods off the road and path to delay. SS were relentless and flanked from.right and took the buildings in last half turn. Russians were spread thin. Well played by Bill and the SS.
2023-08-24(D) Shaun Andrews vs Jeff Talor Russian winThe Germans got bogged down on turn two via being tied up in four different CC that all lasted for approximately three turns. This created a favorable timetable for the Russians to win.
2023-08-06(A) Mark Thompson vs Steve Blunt (Russians) German (SS) winThe SS attacked with alacrity and the Russians responded with an effective fighting withdrawal through the forest but fate intervened rather heavily mid-game in favor of the SS in the form of DRs, an X'd-out Russian intensive-firing HMG, and ineffectively DC attacks by the Russian HIP'd 3-2-8s. The SS then flanked and overwhelmed the defenders and took all 10 buildings by the SS turn 6, prompting Russian concession. Well-played by both sides with few mistakes, probably decided by "the bot". Key to SS victory is to heavily deploy, move 3+ hexes forward each turn, relentlessly press, infiltrate, flank, and encircle the defenders, and assiduously avoid CC.
2023-06-24(D) Indy Lagu vs Magnus Rimvall Russian winThis one is apparently a classic, and I can see why.

It is a textbook fall back; as the Russians, your decisions on when
to fall back and how far are crucial.

Most of my units were in the woods on the Russian right. The evil
SS put most of their units there as well...makes sense as the other
flank is open ground.

Magnus played a very good game, and could have won if it weren't
for a couple of crucial DR at crucial times. I felt this match was tense
from the first wind change DR to the last Russian turn. The Germans
surrendered in their last MPh as they could not capture the requisite
number of buildings.

A classic scenario; well worth a playing.
2021-09-08(D) nathan wegener vs Scott Martin German (SS) winFought a good delaying action but lost the open flank a turn too soon and ran out of troops to defend the last turn. Close match.

The game past night was J103 Lenin's Sons, against Scott. I had, you guessed it, the Russians. I did not pick the Russians once. Three times out of four we rolled for sides, and one time my opponent asked if he could play the Germans. I am on holidays this week, and the games were at my house, so I could set up the scenario (taking the time to read all of the SSRs and victory conditions) and think about my setup, particularly the placement of the two half squads and the hero HIP. Scott attacked aggressively down the south edge, with some forces coming down the right. The hero and a half squad popped up in U1 on the first turn, and engaged three squads for most of the game, securing the north flank. The other half squad hid in T5 as hundreds of heavily armed SS troops rushed by. I revealed it later when two broken desperate squads stopped their rout in S6. Despite this interference Scott pushed on, and by the last turn had captured four of the victory buildings. I had fallen back to my last defence line, but it was very solid. Scott had no choice but to charge into a wall of fire and residual. Squad after squad broke, and in the end he had very little. He conceded before the advancing fire phase, but I pointed out that he could still obtain victory, so we played on. His advancing fire broke the only MMC in one building, allowing his 9-2 to advance in to close combat my commissar. The fanatic SS leader ambushed, and sent the commissar on his way. Unfortunately leaders cannot take possession of buildings by themselves. A half squad got into I3, but could not kill the contents. A CX squad got into D5, and was locked in melee. A wounded hero went CX to get into F3 against my squad and 8-1 leader, was ambushed, and killed.
