Overview:

On the 1st of August 1944, the French 2ème Division Blindee landed in Normandy, anxious to fight the “Boche”. Following the breakthrough created by Operation Cobra and the failure of the German counter-attack at Mortain, time seemed ripe to destroy by encirclement the remaining Nazi units in Normandy. Concentrating around Le Mans, the US XV Corps - with 2ème DB – headed north on the 9th, with the town of Argentan as main objective. The first encounters with German panzer units gave mixed results. If the hedgerows formed perfect defensive positions, the flexibility and aggressiveness of the French often prevailed. Four days later, Leclerec forces were south of Argentan, theoretically an objective of the 5th US Armored Division. The French general nevertheless decided to take the town. A small mixed column drove to the outskirts and infantry under Lieutenant Carage cautiously entered Argentan but found no signs of the enemy. Unknown to the Allies, elements of the 116.Panzerdivision hurried from the north to help bolster the crumbling defense.

2022-03-19(D) nathan wegener vs Larry Zoet Free French winTook out the Stummel early with a stun by lmg sqd. Lmg sqd then TH/TK a 2nd HT before breaking several other attackers and then defending the 2nd VC building while slowly chewing up 2.5 sqds in various melee attacks. In the last half turn the frustrated Germans fired into that melee 30+3 breaking their remaining 3 HS while the same squad stood its ground. My FT x'd on first shot! MM2022 - Great game!!!
2020-11-19(A) Andy Bagley vs David Blackwood Free French winStarted really badly for the Germans when I got toasted by a hidden flamethrower - entirely my fault for not scouting properly first. I almost gave up early on but then got a run of really good luck, which suddenly made the game quite close. "Just one more turn" became my catchphrase, but in the end I couldn't quite achieve the comeback.
