Overview:

Even before the end of the battle at Kursk, the Soviets began attacking along the Mius River. After gaining hard fought ground, their offensive lost steam. The Germans lost no time in preparing a counter attack, mostly with units still exhausted from the Kursk defeat. While the panzer divisions atatcked the northern flank of the Soviet bridgehead, the 294th Infantry division sought ground in the south. On the second day of the counter-offensive, the 294th retook Yelizavetinsky and pushed onward, bringing the Germans up against two small hills, called Sternhohe and Kreuzhohe by the Germans. The initial attack went well for the 29th, but the Soviets reacted strongly. The attack faltered in the face of Soviet infantry and tanks. Luckily a Sturmgeschutz battalion nearby lent help.

2021-06-18(D) John Garlic vs David Mareske Russian win[Imported from ROAR]
2020-06-26(D) Jeff B vs Steve Etzelmueller Russian winDue to my passive defense, a rare SP scenario where the first turn was spent strictly on the approach. Once the first foray of HS showed their faces on the hills on Turn 2 I started to let them have it. My tanks, and most of my troops, played a reverse slope defense. Turn 3 saw the Germans push me off the western hedgerow, but all my foxholes were along the back ridge and this was mainly a stalling force. The rest of the game saw the battle for the foxholes develop in full force, but the Germans ended up taking only two, and one of those was likely to be recaptured in melee. Like any scenario predicated on maintaining concealment and shuffling lines, pretty boring from a defensive standpoint.
