Overview:

The Soviet 18th Special Rifle Corps was steadily tightening the noose on the Hungarians and Germans defending the east bank of the Danube River in Pest. The Soviets had advanced west to Orczy Square and were preparing to continue their drive to the Danube bridges. Desperately short on infantry, the Hungarians dispatched the Budapest Police, which had been organized into makeshift infantry, to counterattack and push the Soviets out of the buildings surrounding Orczy Square. Supported by several Zrinyi assault guns, the Budapest Police Security Regiment launched their attack. . . . This is Schwerpunkt's first Axis Minors scenario designed to support Armies of Oblivion.
Attacker: Hungarian (1st Budapest Police Security Regt. & 10th Assault Artillery Btn)

2025-02-26(A) Peter Palmer vs Hank Burkhalter Hungarian win4.5 hrsVASL League 2025 Second Line Round 1
I knew of Hank from his work with AvalonCon and the BPA, but it was a pleasure to play him. My Infantry dd 90% of the heavy Lifting in this scenario with my SPGs basically acting initially as Smoke generators and then tying up the ATG and the SU76. I think I only got one effective HE shot off with the Zrinyis but that was a Critical Hit and after that Hank was loathe to have his remaining Infantry stick around under the barrels of the 105. In the meantime I focused on CCing the 426s where possible and mounting what FP I could manage against his stronger troops. The Soviet HMG was a non factor from the start due to Turn 1 and the constant redeployment that ensued. I won after basically eliminating all the Soviet infantry in the northern 2 VC buildings and despite my continued uselessness in CC (I whiffed again on a -3 3:2 versus a Conscript on Turn 1 that took until Turn 3 to finally end.) I was in possession of the southernmost two buildings with the T34s not really able to kick me out. Hank was a great opponent and definitely had the raw end of my targeting of his Infantry with IFT and HE but his CC resilience was legendary.
