Overview:

After several weeks of preparation, the Red Army was ready to launch its major attack south of Leningrad, aimed at freeing the city, and on a much larger scale, to cut off German Army Group North. The Blue Division was deployed in the path of the main attack. The massive artillery blast the Soviets triggered on the 10th of February surprised the Blue Division by its intensity. Over an hour later, the dug in Spaniards had taken nearly fifty percent casualties, their trench network mauled. At 0815, the men of 262nd Battalion, stationed on the outskirts of Krasny Bor, saw the first wave of Soviet infantry moving towards them, to finish off what the guns had left.
