Overview:

The battle for Kursk had begun. After breaching the first line of defense, the 86. Infanterie-Division supported by the gigantic Ferdinand tank destroyers of schwere Panzer-Abteilung 654 continued toward the Russians' second defensive belt. But the Russian 27th Guards Tank Regiment supported by engineers was about to mount a counter-attack. The Germans would pay in blood for every inch gained of Russian soil.- - - - In the mid-sized 5.5-turn "Elephants Unleashed", a German combined arms force fight their way through minefields, wire, Russian infantry and counterattacking T-34s. Find out for yourself if the lack of a bow machine gun was really the Ferdinand's Archilles' Heel.
Attacker: German (Panzer-Division 18, Infanterie-Division 86 and schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 654)
Defender: Russian (81st Rifle Division and 275th Separate Engineer Battalion and 27th Guards and 1442nd Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment)

2025-12-01(A) Douglas Leslie vs Eric Partizan Eric German winFun scenario. My Germans quickly blasted the Russian defenders out of the forward buildings but lost an Elephant to an immobilization result from an AT minefield. Since it was pointing nowhere useful, I was effectively one down in the armour battle to come. I decided to throw the AFVs forward and turn three couldn't have gone much better for the attackers. By the end of Russian Turn three, they only had one T34 with functioning MA remaining and Eric decided to concede.
2025-01-11(A) Yuhang Lei vs Siyuan He Russian win3.5 hrsGreat scenario. However I ignore the left flank at a certain dgree. It caused Soviet's tanks can successfully Interspersed and surrounded my Ferdinands. Four of my vehicles destroyed makes decide to throw in the towel so that Soviet Red Army won this game.

2021-05-01(D) Chuck Dye vs DD Russian win
2020-12-05(D) Scott Fischbein vs Leo Hill Russian winLeo wanted a rematch after our earlier play of this when he malfed one of his Elephant's guns, and then immobilized another one... This time he tried a different strategy and tried to exit as many AFVs and squads as possible, and ignore the VC buildings completely. He got a bit bogged down in the middle of the board, and after a 9-1 Russian leader earned MVP for the game by taking out a PZIII with a thrown DC, the Germans had to exit all three of their remaining tanks to get exactly the exit VC needed. I was able to drive a T-34 up close for a rear shot on the final turn of the game... missed the first shot due to double smoke placement, but got the IF shot and kill for the win. A fun, close game.
2020-10-31(D) Scott Fischbein vs Leo Hill Russian winThe Elephants were pretty leashed in this playing, by a pair of boxcars leading to a malfed MA and an immobilization. With 2/3 of the behemoths out of the action, as well as one PZIVH, and my SU-152s and T-34s fairly free to run amok, Leo decided to call it a day and return to fight another time. Looking forward to a rematch!

2019-02-09(A) Richard Jenulis vs Julius Wirhhlin German winNWASL Championship 2019
2017-12-19(D) Jeff B vs Martin Marquis German winI knew going into this it looked tough for the Russians. I setup making taking the buildings as attractive an option as possible, but my opponent did exactly what I would have done and ignored this, going exclusively for a west board edge exit. Any German that plays this otherwise is foolish in my mind, as the Russian setup limitations prevent much defense of this route. This also relegates the minefields and wire absolutely useless (other than quite possibly restricting Russian moves). Despite the seemingly short nature of the scenario there is still more than enough time for the Elephants to creep forward under protection of the infantry and other tanks. His infantry got ripped to shreds. Didn't matter. The Elephants alone have enough points to satisfy the VP. The Germans also have excellent smoke potential. Add to this that, under the best circumstances, the Russians outnumber them in vehicles by a whopping one. Oh, and most of them are RST, and the ones that aren't get low ammo at 10. It certainly didn't help my Russian cause when three of my MAs Malf'd. I will chalk this one up as yet another overrated FrF scenario relegated to the dustbin.
2017-10-06(D) Jason Wert vs Joe Celebiski Russian winGreat scenario at ASLOK. Joe marched his Monsters straight down the board and flamed the Russian tanks that dared to take them on. The Russians managed to get their infantry into reinforce and delay the German troops. A lucky immob'd on one of the Monsters knocked out the option for a German win and the Russians held the buildings for a win.
2016-10-05(A) Michael Rodgers vs Rob Loper German winI decided from the start to go only for the building VC. It took awhile, but it worked. I found out at the game end that my shell holes took out some mines and wire near the fron building.
2014-05-24(D) Paolo Cariolato vs Gabriele Davide Mazza Russian winThis is a great scenario and a true classic, my game was heavily influenced by the fact that one elephant immobilized on a minefield and another stayed out of action for mechanincal breakdown.
2014-04-10(D) nathan wegener vs Albert W Russian winVery entertaining battle. Good combined arms battle All the toys made an appearance to some effect. Mines hit 2 squads and a tank. the T-34s got hot and zapped 2 elephants and the other Pz3. The SUs knocked out the Pz4 and vaporized a couple of squaddies. Germans captured 6 building hexes but couldn't get enough of a push on the last turn to grab one more.
2014-01-17(A) Michael Rodgers vs Bob Scripp German winGermans won by controlling buildings on turn 5. Russian conceded because no infantry left to take back buildings.
2013-06-29(A) Gordon Jupp vs Miles Wiehahn German winDouble One 13, R1 of group tournament. Great game, to and fro and went to last CC of last turn! Definitely one to play.

2012-06-11(D) Richard Carter vs Gary Fortenberry German winOutmatched by superior opponent for sure, but it was a crazy and fun battle with lots of back and forth.
2010-06-27(A) Paul Jones vs Neil Stevens German winExcellen scenario from FF pack (now in J8 as well). Elephants are tough to knock out.
2010-05-01(A) Richard Jenulis vs Robert Wolkey Russian win[exact date unknown]
2010-03-06(D) Rich Weiley vs Mark McGilchrist Russian winPaddington Bearz - March 2010
2010-01-07(A) David Ramsey vs Martin Barker Russian winDice didn't help me with 2 critical malfs when I needed them the most. Also missed a bunch of CC (<=8) attempts against an SU152 which ultimately left me far too much to do. Great scenario though!
