| 2022-07-13 | (A) Mark McG | vs | German/Italian | British win | A 4 year PBeM game, played sporadically over some the years, with some lulls as life and work got busy. Final result was the German surrendering in the July 16 AM scenario as the British infantry force that had crossed over the canal on their left severalscenarios before had finally connected to the bridge, clearing the roadblock. This allowed the British tanks to cross the bridge in force,and couple with huge quantities of British infantry, the British were pushing forwards a hex or two per turn. The German pocket in the village was being squeezed out. Overall I don't rate this CG highly. The initial scenarios of the British paras vs the German Fallshirmjaeger are interesting, the Brits first expelling the Italians, and then trying to hold the bridgehead. Thereafter, the terrain of olivegroves and vineyards make LOS very difficult and for a time the most effective weapons were OBA and snipers. Even with massed HMGs, the hinderance modifiers are extreme. It is like jungle terrain to an extent, very close fighting, but across the canal most firepower became ineffective. |
