Overview:
Thailand entered into an alliance with Japan, a received permission to invade China, which would help also the Japanese in their offensive. The Thai Army invaded into the Shan States on 10 May 1942 and advanced rapidly against Chinese forces that were withdrawing in front of them. The 2nd and 4th Thai Divisions seized initial objectives allowing the 3rd Division to attack the capital, Kengtung. The attackers were slowed and forced to fight through several roadblocks on the way, but successfully broke through and were postured to attack the capital city. The 52nd Battalion was the main effort attacking into Kengtung, and was reinforced with a machinegun platoon and tanks. They attacked in the afternoon of 26 May, and came under intense machinegun fire as they approached Kengtung’s outskirts.Attacker: Thai (Reinforced elements of 52nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Thai Infantry Division)
