Overview:
After destroying several coastal batteries, once ashore, Major Gambiez’s Shock Battalion advanced inland towards the northwest portion of the island. A first combat group took Monte Perone while another took the village of Marciana from the west. Towards the end of the afternoon they arrived in the surroundings of Marciana Marina, throwing back some of the German coastal defense forces.
