Overview:

The famous assault on Eban-Emael was only part of a sweeping operation to seize bridges across the Albert Canal-Belgium's first and foremost line of defense along which the Allies anticipated the Germans could be held at bay for five days. Even as Witzig's combat engineers debouched from gliders on the grounds of the fortress, "Assault Group Steel" (volunteers from the 1st Company, Fallschirmjäger Regiment 1 led by Lt. Altmann) was coming to earth at the villages of Veldwezelt and Briedgen to the north. In a furious assault, the 114 Germans captured the two bridges there and destroyed the detonator wiring. Still under desultory fire, engineers removed the explosives. Altmann reported success and settled back to await relief by the 4th Panzer Division. But it was not to be that simple. The Belgian command, acting with rare alacrity, ordered the 2nd Carabiniers to recapture the lost bridges.

2023-10-26(A) C. Scott Kippen vs Chuck Anderson German winEnjoyable, but tough for the Belgians. A lot has to go their way to break those Germans with all the open ground.

2022-03-15(D) David Garvin vs Bill Sosnicki German win
2020-07-02(A) Dave Mareske vs Dan Best German winDan set up a good defense that was hard to break. By the time I was able to get through the Belgians had very little left. The Belgians ran out of gas on turn 8 and they still were facing four full squads. A highlight (for Dan) has a leader battle hardened and became heroic on an interdiction roll!
2020-06-08(D) David Garvin vs Nick Faryna German win
2019-12-14(A) Jeff B vs Timothy Davis Belgian win1.25 hrsThis scenario's a real dud. It's a pure dicefest, with the Belgians lining up on one side of the canal and the Germans on the other (assuming they make it across safely - which shouldn't be a problem). The Germans have the TEM advantage, while the Belgians have the range. But the big swing factor is the Stukas. In our game the Germans didn't get them in time before the Belgians had the breakthrough on the dice, eliminating 1.5 German squads, breaking the 9-2, and breaking another 2.5 squads.
2017-12-18(D) Will Willow vs Fred Schwarz Belgian winVASL
2017-05-15(D) Martí Cabré vs Nicolas Sabido German winPlayed to see Stukas at work. They entered on Turn 5, enough to stop cold the Belgians from reaching the bridge. Before that, the Germans had mowed down some Belgian units so the attacker had reached the final line with very few units. Then the Stukas started their terror attacks and the remaining Belgians were all routed before ever reaching the bridge.
2014-01-19(A) mark watson vs Luke Sineath German winPlayed this to learn Air Support. Absolutely bloody conflict with the belgians largely eliminated and a handful of germans remaining. Belgians broke at the bridge after harrowing 16 -4 shots.

Air support was extremely effective.
2011-06-02(D) Miikka Sohlman vs Matti Holsti German win
