Overview:

Despite the dire circumstances surrounding KG Scherer, Russian soldiers risked defecting into German lines. Two such defectors provided warning of an impending major Russian offensive, which was to take place on the 23rd, the Red Army's birthday. Their warning proved true. The celebration opened with Katyusha rocket attacks, followed by barrages of heavy artillery and mortar fire. The Russians then attacked en masse against all quarters of the city.
Attacker: Russian (33rd Rifle Division, 3rd Shock Army and 391st Rifle Division and armor support from 170th Independent Tank Battalion)
