Overview:

By 6 February, the loss of Sas-hegy placed the German troops holding the Austrian built Citadelia atop the Gellert-hegy in imminent danger of being overrun from the south by the Soviet 83rd Marine Brigade. Further to the north the Soviet 297th Rifle Division had successfully advanced toward the last Axis stronghold west of the Vermezo, the Deli Palyaudvar (Budapest Railway Terminal). On 6 February, the Soviet started their assault on the station area.

2022-06-02(A) Jeff B vs John Fedoriw German (SS) / Hungarian win5 hrsUnlike my first (uncompleted) playing of this where my opponent tried an upfront defense, this time my new opponent setup everybody down the hill on the other side of the tracks. I must say this was by far the more successful approach, as in the previous playing I was already close to knocking on the train station door by the end of Turn 2. This time I went for the three building approach, and it ended up being extremely constrictive with all the railcars, wire, and mines. When the 75INF gun showed its fasce on the upper level of AAA13 it became even more of a challenge. By the middle of Turn 3 I had lost all but one of my tanks, and had unfortunately started a fire in the small rail station with my FT. These two items constricted the approach even more. The last half of the game was spent fighting over less than a handful of hexes and turned into a bit of a dull grind. In the end the Axis just had too much firepower and bodies to prevent me from taking the last VC building.
