Overview:

On the same day Hitler had ordered Warsaw to be held "at all costs" the Russian 2nd Tank Army advanced on the Polish capital from the north. All the German 9. Armee could muster against this powerful force was Gruppe Frank based around Generalleutnant Frank's 73. Infanterie-Division. This weak force was recklessly sent south in an attempt to slow down the Russian armor-clad spearheads.
Attacker: Russian (5th Separate Motorcycle Regiment, 2nd Tank Army)
Defender: German (Bataillon I and Kompanie 13, Grenadier-Regiment 70, Infanterie-Division 73)

2017-11-05(D) Jeff B vs John Fedoriw German win3.75 hrsI completely ignored Board y, instead choosing to setup all my men in the fields and woods of Board x. I thought I'd be able to make a unified withdrawal, but it soon became apparent that my stacks (those units with either a leader or SW) would draw all the attention of the Russian vehicles. These units often just assault moved to maintain concealment and were soon separated from the bulk of the retreating force. With their halftrack and cycle mobility, the Russians were able to beat them to their ultimate destination (the field/wood mass in the northwest). Had they had one more turn I believe they would've situated themselves to make it impossible for the Germans. As it was, the Germans (mostly half squads) soon drew ranks with the concealed Russian squads (who thankfully lacked SW to give them range) and a battle royale was imminent. The Russian meat chopper had also just snuck around the back under plenty of grain cover to add further pressure. The Germans were slowly losing the battle of attrition, so they broke out their two HIP guns to bolster the troops, knowing that they would draw the meat chopper's full attention. A halftrack was taken out (the first and only Russian vehicle casualty) so the Germans only needed 3 squads north of the goal line. With the stragglers coming in followed closely by the remaining Russian vehicles it was bound to be a tight finish. In the end the Russians came up short when needed and the Germans ended up with 4.5 squads. Interesting scenario.
2016-03-26(A) A Fifteen vs Tycho Granville German win
2013-04-15(D) Andy Beaton vs Mike Augustine Russian winMy front collapsed without killing a single AFV and before I could get enough squads retreating for even a mathematical chance to win. It was over by turn 3.
