Overview:

On 10 July 1941 both the German 2nd Panzer Group and the 3rd Panzer Group began offensives against the Soviet armies facing them – with the goal to encircle a large number of Russian forces near Smolensk. The 3rd Panzer Group, commanded by Generaloberst Hoth, established a bridgehead across the Dvina River and moved east and north past the city. To the south, the 2nd Panzer Group, commanded by General der Panzertruppe Guderian, crossed the Dnepr River and overran its opposition. By 13 July, the 2nd Panzer Group had bypassed Mogilev, trapping several Soviet divisions within a “kessel” and pressed north towards Smolensk. Four Soviet armies faced the two panzer Groups in and around the city. These armies conducted a series of counterattacks agsinst the advancing German forces wth marginal results. On 14 July, the 3rd Panzer Group reached positions west of Smolensk while the 2nd Panzer Group assaulted the city itself. The Germans succeeded in capturing one railroad bridge which gave them a small bridgehead north of the river. Orders went out to the Soviet 129th Infantry Division to counterattack and recapture or destroy the bridge.

German OB: Turn 2 reinforcements – last part of entry text should read, “…enter Turn 2 along the south edge.”email from D. Best.
Change “A single-lane wood bridge exists in 8Y2-Y4.” to “A single-lane wooden bridge exists in 8Y2-Y4; the weight limit for this bridge is 50 tons (B6.42).”
Clarification: Use the six T26S M37 available in the system (A to F) resulting in varying MG.D. Best via GameSquad

2018-07-14(A) Dan Best vs Dave Mareske German winThree player game with Kermit Mullins as co-Russian.
2018-07-14(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dave Mareske German winDan Best, Dave Mareske and I played this one as a 3 Player Cardboard via SKYPE with Dan and Dave at the Hollis Center and me in Illinois. Dan and I were the Russians and launched an attack from the north and one from the east. Dave's 9-2 and HMG just wiped us out. It held rate of fire every time it fired and clobbered us. By the end of Turn 2, with the German tanks in position on the bridge, Dan and I had to give the concession. Fun scenario as always!
