Overview:

The Japanese attempted a local counterattack against the Allied offensive with the aim of drawing allied reserves from the Central Front in Assam, where the Japanese were preparing their own major offensive. The first attacks came on the night of February 6th, as the favorite tactic of infiltration allowed the Japanese to cut Naugydauk Pass and isolate the 7th Indian Division near Point 315. In preparation, the Indians had cleared the area in front of the hill out to 1,200 meters, so the attack was repulsed with heavy casualties and hand-to-hand fighting. The following day, General Sakuri attacked again as the Lees of the 25th Dragoons moved to reinforce the defenders.
Attacker: Japanese (Elements 112th Infantry Regiment)

2018-01-23(A) X von Marwitz vs Ernst Knauth Gurkha winPlayed this one a couple of years ago as the Gurkhas. Now as the Japanese.

Basically a nice scenario, though I believe it is a bit tough on the Japanese. The VC are no piece of cake in the first place, the Japanese have a hazardous approach and the British get some meaningful reinforcements, among them 2x Lee tanks with 2MGs and 2 Guns on each which can be a real PITA in the PTO to block Japanese movement.
As so often with Schwerpunkt designs, there is not a second to loose, so the Japanese really have to hassle. Better hope that you get Smoke for the Japanese Turn 1 Rush (Chances for WP5 for each of the two INF Guns, and S7 for the Knee Mortar. Very bad, if you don't. One of the potential weaknesses of the design. I got one round of Smoke out of the MTR.
I was a bit aggravated for losing three full Japanese squads to three separate snake-eye KIAs, another HS to a DR3 KIA a HS to fate, and two more HS for a tie in RS, and X'ed on Repair one of the 70mm INF Guns. A bit too much to take for the Japanese before the end Japanese Turn 3 besides additional "normal" losses. Conceded end of Japanese Turn 3.
2016-04-09(D) Raoul Duke vs MH Gurkha winAll of the best aspects of the PTO rolled into one short scenario. Nasty close range fighting ensued around the summit of Hill 505 as the Japanese tried to root out the Ghurkas. Only down side is that the stacks can get rather messy, with lots of 5/8" counters scattered in amongst the infantry.
2015-10-17(D) X von Marwitz vs Martin Mayers Japanese winI had the Gurkhas in this one. It was an absolute blast to play for both sides. Extremly bitter fighting on top of the hills.
