Overview:

The Soviet Moscow counteroffensive aimed to encircle Army Group Center’s 4. Armee and 4. Panzerarmee by cutting through their rear area and supply lines in the Vyazma and Iukhnov regions. To achieve this, General Zhukov employed deep cavalry, airborne, and partisan operation. Hitler countermanded his generals’ plan to fall back from Moscow with his own “Stand fast as all costs” order. As a result, every German-occupied hamlet was turned into a strongpoint. One such location, 50 kilometers southwest of Vyzama, was the Ugra railroad station, held by four companies of Major Alfred Haase’s kampfgruppe. The station was adjacent to the strategically important Ugra River bridge – right in the heart of the Soviet 4th Airborne Corps’ drop zone.

2022-10-01(D) davide galloni vs Marco Bria German win
2022-07-09(D) Jack Wilson vs Stephen Gibson German winHuman Wave 2022 opening round game. My first official game at an SK tournament. The Russians have 11 elite squads to start out with plus 6 more conscripts coming on later. The Germans have one HIP 20L AA gun, and one MMC, Ldr, SW to set up HIP. The Russian onslaught is substantial, and the Germans have to slowly fall back on the to the two VC buildings. Stephen managed to get a foothold in one but ran out of time before he could get the other.
I employed a lot of skulking to try to minimize DFPh casualties. Stephen felt he was too cautious with his original elite force, while too aggressive with the conscripts. This is another short scenario that does not provide the attacker with the luxury of a meticulous advance.

2021-11-09(D) Alberto Pomar vs César Moreno Russian win
2021-10-09(A) Tony Fermendzin vs Arshish Kapadia Russian win

(VASL Log)
The Soviet airborne troops fought tenaciously, aggressively pushing forward throughout the battle. The German's put up a strong defense, slowly pulling back, trading troops for time. The Soviets overran the Ugra station on turn 4 and were able to take the last building on turn 5. There did not seem to be a lot of room for maneuver in this one. A real slugfest that could have gone either way. Elite Soviet squads rolling well on their MC's can make for an unstoppable force.
2021-04-06(A) Jonathan Plott vs Steve Boro German winA sound, simple Russian tactical plan did not survive first contact with the enemy. The very first Russian paratrooper to enter the board was vaporized by a expertly positioned long-range German MMG before he even entered a full hex! I tried to regain the initiative, but after a bit of back and forth, Steve's layered defense was way too much for me to crack. Well played!

2020-06-23(A) Dmitry Klyuykov vs Fedor Grachev German win
2020-05-11(A) Raoul Duke vs BS German winSoviets pushed through the woods east of the village and secured building P5 early. Despite vicious back and forth fighting, they could never amass enough firepower to completely push the Germans out of O7.
2019-10-25(D) Eric Topp vs Peter Morris German win
2019-01-12(A) O Ramaille vs Russian winThe Russian attack was first slowed by the tough resistance of the Germans. Then, with their higher number helping, the Russians forced their way and entered melee where they proved deadly. The hidden German AA gun revealed too late to prevent the capture of the two key buildings. A major victory for the Russians.

2014-11-19(A) Pablo Barreiro vs German winVery interesting and equilibrated until the end.
2014-10-11(A) Dmitry Klyuykov vs Anna Aleksanyan Russian winTight "till the last roll" scenario with a lot of back and forth swings of fortune. Solid one.
