Overview:

The Finnish Armored Division was ordered to take the important city of Rovaniemi. After a few inconclusive skirmishes, the lead battalion encountered German positions near Lake Portimo. The first attack was not successful. For the next attack, five Sotkas (captured T-34s) were ordered to provide support. Scouts could see the German positions ahead, which had been reinforced with rocks. The order "company forward" was given. The German Jagers had become the hunted.
Attacker: Finnish (Jaeger Battalion 5 and 3rd Company, 1st Battalion, Armored Brigade)

2024-04-02(A) Kevin Duval vs Dwayne DuvalA Finnish winFins committed bulk of forces along the muddy road with small token force to harass defenders guarding paved road. Overwhelming FP & units defeated one AT gun with only one burning AFV. Poor PF checks by Germans kept the attackers in strength ... pushed through for breakout in Turn 4 with not one AFV Bogging due to secret DR for Mud ... over in Turn 5.

2023-11-22(A) Todd Cox vs German winLooked like a runaway for the Finns at first. Then the panzerfausts took a heavy toll. Ended up with just enough Finn units mobile to achieve exit VP but came up one turn short of that needed to get off the board.

2017-11-21(A) Tom Abromaitis vs Finnish winBerserk Fininish squad charging an AT gun drew a ton of attention. Finnish armour made a break for it.
2016-06-15(A) Michael Rodgers vs Bruno L'Archeveque German winOne Finn tank and one platoon used the paved road. Everyone else used the brush side. This side had riders as well. Made decent progress for the first five turns on the right. The German OBA worked most of the time, but not all of the time. The left tank failed its mechanical reliability roll, so that side could only contribute difficulty to the German routs from the other board and tie up some troops for awhile. The Germans had one AT gun in the centre, and the other near the paved road. The center gun killed one tank, but the rest avoided it. By the second to last turn, the Finns had exited about 25 VP, and many Germans were dead or broken, but the Germans had a Harassing Fire mission down on the exit area, as well as there remaining good order two squads and LMG. Very few Finns made it through; I ended with 29 VP exited; not enough.

2015-07-25(D) Michael Rodgers vs Scott Martin German winMy round 3 at Saint Louis: Scott Martin (of Kansas city) and I chose 175 HUNTERS AT YLIMAA. By dice, I received the defending Germans. I defended slightly stronger on the paved road side. I positioned the MMG far back to shoot down the paved road. Everyone else was positioned to deter stacked movement and cover the LMG guys with possible PF. OBA was on the German left. One ATG was in the middle rear to fire left or right. The other was near the MMG and told to wait for a tank to sleaze the MMG. Scott brought most of the Finns in on their left on the paved road and middle, but one tank and about six squads and the 9-1 leader came on the Finn right. The OBA came and went, and came and went again. It put a hurt on some infantry on the Finn right early and shocked the tank there, but the tank recovered. Scott pushed his assets forward cautiously, being sure to stay out of PF range. Many turns passed with moving and shooting and falling back. The ATG near the MMG was revealed by a HS movement before it ever fired at a tank. It broke one squad, but never had another shot. The most key moment came around turn 5 when the center ATG took out two tanks in one prep fire phase. It also pinned a nearby squad (with three shots!), but it also never fired again because of Finns going into CC. After one fire mission, I moved the observer to the German right. He managed one more fire mission which messed up some Finn infantry. On the last turn, I had left to me only four squads, a 7-0 with an LMG and a broken 8-0. All the other SW had malfunctioned and disappeared. My troops were in good blocking positions, and substantial Finn infantry were too far away to exit. The first Russian tank ran the gauntlet to exit. A squad found a PF, shot and missed, found a second PF, hit and killed the tank. That kind of PF performance feels rare for me. That ended any chance of a Finnish victory.

2015-05-08(D) Andy Beaton vs Tom West Finnish winGermans got no OBA, no AT gun hits and only one PF shot. Could not stop the Finnish armour and conceded on turn 6.
