The 369th Division was destroyed in Stalingrad. Those fortunate enough to have been evacuated formed the core of the Division's reformation. Nicknamed "The Devil's Division" this new force found themselves in the Balkans, being attacked from two sides by strong Partisan forces well equipped with weapons from England, Germany and Italy. Out manned and outgunned, the Croats were forced out of the village and needed rescue from nearby units of the SS Prinz Eugen Division.
