Overview:
The Germans were rapidly advancing south into Greece and it was the New Zealand Battalion that took up the defense of Castle Hill and its ruined castle from the Byzantine era that guarded the approach to a railway tunnel through the slopes near Mount Olympus. Lt-Col Neil Lloyd “Polly” Macky ordered his troops to dig in north of Castle Hill to repulse the German advance. The German troops ditched their motorcycles just north and advanced through the brush on foot with the support of light tanks.Attacker: German (2nd Kradschutzen Bataillon and 3rd Panzer Regiment, 2nd Panzer Division)
