Overview:

For Operation PLUNDER, Monty’s elaborately planned crossing of the Rhine, glider-borne troops would be landing on unsecured landing zones (LZs). The British 6th Airborne was to land just to the northeast of Hamminkeln and secure two roads and a railroad bridge across the Issel River. Landing on LZs O and U, the 6th Air Landing Brigade was assigned the vital objectives, with the Royal Ulster Rifles (RUR) and the 2nd Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (the 2nd OBLI of Pegasus Bridge fame) were to secure the three little bridges across the River Issel. As the gliders crossed the Rhine, they were met by angry bursts of anti-aircraft fire and greeted by a landing zone shrouded in dust and smoke from the preparatory air and artillery bombardment.

2020-02-16(D) keith Spurlock vs Andy Hershey German win[Imported from ROAR]
2020-01-02(D) Jeff B vs Magnus Rimvall German win11 hrsI wasn't expecting much from my AA guns. Needless to say I was tickled pink when I managed to shoot one glider out of the sky, another one crash landed (losing all aboard), and two more were wrecked on the ground after I shot them up. Of course it probably didn't help the Brits any that they chose a very aggressive landing site in south, sandwiched between my two heavily-positioned guard posts. In fact I had as many men, equipment, and forts I could cram down there, leaving only a bunch of dummies in the far north, and a token force in the middle. Little did I know how truly devastating were the British losses that first turn (3.5 squads, their 9-2, 2 LMGs, and a mortar). I did lose one of my AA guns to a permanent MALF at the end of Turn 1, and the Brits shot up my central force upon landing, leaving only an 8-0 and an abandoned disrupted squad. They quickly claimed the central bridge on Turn 2 and started to make their way south to help their encircled brethren. The northern bridge was secured the following Turn, while my first reinforcements came in on the southeast in the form of a Kubelwagen/6+1/6-5-8 to bolster my position. Turns 4 and 5 saw the Brits amassing outside the small woods in the south, but this terrain would prove to be very restrictive and low on cover. Meanwhile the initial landing force in the south was all but rounded up. My last reinforcements came in all the way up north in the form of a HT/8-1/HS/HMG. They headed south, arriving just in time to help in the last stand at the bridge. I continually recycled a wall of bodies along the woods, and the Brits made very slow headway. Finally on the last Turn I just surrounded the bridge, making it impossible for the Brits to take it. Despite the annoying dust this was a pretty fun scenario.
