Overview:
As a result of the inability to capture Kesternich and the high rate of casualties among commanding officers, at 0100 hours on 15 December, Lt. Col. Creighton E. Likes, XO of the 309th, was placed in command of 2nd Battalion, 309th Infantry and 2nd Battalion, 310th Infantry. These two battalions, with a platoon of tanks and a platoon of M-10 tank destroyers, were combined to form task force assigned with the capture of Kesternich, to commence at 0700 hours on 15 December.Attacker: American (309th and 310 Infantry Battalions)
