Overview:
Generals Walton "Johnnie" Walker and Hobart "Hap" Gay, commanders respectively of Eighth Army and 1st Cavalry Division, had both served in the Third Army during WWII, and both realized the division's performance at Yongdong was nothing General Patton would have been proud of. Although prior to deployment the division had been gutted of almost 800 noncoms and junior officers transferred to the 24th Infantry Division, that was no excuse, and the critical situation demanded better. Now, First Team was called upon to continue the defense of Taegu, even as the 27th Infantry Regiment pulled back from Hwanggan. On the road just west of Kumchon, Gay moved the two battalions of Colonel Cecil Nist's 7th Cavalry Regiment from reserve to try to stop the KPA advance-or at least slow it down.Attacker: North Korean (3rd Division)
