Overview:

On 17 May 1944, after a grueling 100-kilometre (62 mi) march over the 2,000-metre (6,600 ft) Kumon Mountain range (using mules for carrying supplies) to Myitkyina, approximately 1,300 remaining Marauders, along with elements of the 42nd and 150th Chinese Infantry Regiments of the X Force, attacked the unsuspecting Japanese at the Myitkyina airfield. The airfield assault on 17 May 1944 was a complete success; however, the town of Myitkyina could not immediately be taken with the forces on hand. An initial assault by elements of two Chinese regiments was repulsed with heavy losses. NCAC intelligence staff had once again badly underestimated Japanese troop strength in the town, which had steadily been reinforced and now possessed a garrison of some 4,600 well-armed and fanatical Japanese defenders. Weakened by hunger, the 5307th continued fighting through the height of the monsoon season, worsening the situation; it also transpired that the area around Myitkyina had the largest reported incidence of scrub typhus, which some Marauders contracted after sleeping on infected areas of untreated ground, earth or grass. Racked with bloody dysentery and fevers, sleeping in the mud, Marauders alternately assaulted, then defended in a seesaw series of brutal conventional infantry engagements with Japanese forces. The 3rd Battalion of the 5307th left Charpate at 1000 to reach the road junction north of Radhapur. Just short of the junction, they encountered a prepared enemy position.

2024-03-15(A) nathan wegener vs Rick Reinesch Japanese winInteresting premise and good SSR. Things went poorly as the rain poured in T1 and 10-2 passed out recovering in time to get hit by a sniper and die. Without him the Americans cleared the village but the monsoon and lack of 10-2 meant the Japanese banzais were unstoppable.
2021-12-28(D) Paul Works vs Tom Meier Japanese winScenario where the Japanese have to suck it up while their initial troops get destroyed by the over-powering U.S. forces; hoping to inflict a casualty or two on the Americans in the process. I did get chopped up, but was able to kill two American squads in CC (one with a conscript Japanese HS...). I kept my HIP units hidden until I had an opportunity to put his 10-2 and MMG stack under encirclement; which ended up killed another U.S. squad. Once revealed, the HIP units were quickly killed, but they were a distraction enough. Tom played well, but I got a nice WP round that broke one of his squads on the last turn, did an infantry overrun to capture another building, banzai'd with a leader (died, but drew fire), and changed forward with everyone else. I was able to get into CC in three buildings. In one there was no result, in another I ambushed him and killed him and that was the game. The SSR causing the American units to be CX in CC really helped my get the win.
