Overview:

Operation Blue Coat was in full swing as the British 11th Armored “The Black Bulls” moved south towards Vire. A last minute change in orders would direct the 11th to skirt to the east and south Le Beny-Bocage. As their lead elements moved near La Tihardiere, they were spotted by half-tracks of the 9th SS Reconnaissance Regiment of the 9th SS Panzer Division “Hohenstaufen”. The grenadiers of the 9th SS quickly realized they stood little chance of stopping the advancing Sherman tanks of the 23/Hussars, but perhaps they could slow down...delay their advance and give their division precious time to move out of a quickly forming pocket. The SS grenadiers deployed at various cross roads and utilized the heavy bocage to conceal their Panzerfaust and Panzerschreck teams. Supporting them were the mobile 250 halftracks, which would attempt to use their mobility to sting the advancing Allies.
