Overview:
Now that Salla formed the boundary between Finland and Russia, the Russians had fortified the area -- especially the road leading to Salla from the Finnish border. As part of a three-pronged attack -- Finns attacked from the north, Wehrmacht from the south while the untested SS Kampfgruppe Nord had the main thrust down the long forested road. Supported the massed artillery, air support and captured French armor, the attack commenced.Attacker: German (SS) (Elements of 7th SS Infantry Regiment and the 211st Panzer Battalion)
