Overview:

The battle of Bear Valley was a small engagement fought in 1918 between a band of Yaquis and a detachment of United States Army soldiers. On 9 January, 1918, elements of the American 10th Cavalry Regiment detected about thirty armed Yaquis in Bear Valley, Arizona, a large area that was commonly used as a passage across the international border with Mexico. The Americans returned fire and a typical Indian war skirmish began. Though the conflict was merely a skirmish, it was the last time the United States Army engaged hostile Native American Indians in combat and thus has been seen as one of the final battles of the American Indian Wars.

2025-01-28(A) Peter Palmer vs John Knowles American winJohn and I switched over tostart our playthrough of LFT 15 after the first four games of BTB were done.

LFT have become pretty much a no brainer ASL choice for John and I these days. The topics, designs, maps and situations are so eclectic and manoeuvre is emphasised appropriately that they are incredibly enjoyable. I also think that the playtesting has markedly improved unlike other publishers where that seems to have regressed badly as well as some questionable design styles.

This was just fun, and I was fully channelling Rio Grande and She Wore A Yellow Ribbon throughout this scenario. The Arid Desert Terrain is just eyecandy on VASL and I'm enjoying the funkiness of cavalry movement once again. It went down to the wire once more, but I was able to get the necessary 8CVP. It does have the potential to be a bug hunt but an SSR to make all HIps reveal at the beginning of turn 5 or even 6 would not go amiss. The thing is the US player can redeploy very quickly and you can clear one flank of potential HIP guys because their FP is so weak. The US needs to deploy as much as possible and keep doing so - you only really need 1 Squad in reserve to act as the Kill unit.

2024-10-22(A) Jobbo Fett vs JobboFett American winA scenario that seems to have a very cheesy option where you simply hide some squads and pray they never get spotted. Skeezy tactics aside, its an alright scenario with plenty of high-cost movement terrain. Would work well as an intro scenario, minus the CPVA counters and attached SSR you need to use.

2023-05-07(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best Native American winThis is a bit of a bug hunt and I think the Yaquis can just leave the two squads and leaders HIP for the win. Fortunately, Dan sprung ambushes that hurt me bad with 3 snakes. I recovered and drove ahead. My sniper would KIA the Yaquis 9-1...he went heroic earlier in the game. I would get into CC with two squads and win one to obtain 7 VP...but then I rolled a 12 on the second CC and Dan's boys escaped for the win.
