Overview:
After five years of cushy occupation duty in Japan, "MacArthur's Favorite Division"-the 1st Cavalry-was shipped off to Pusan in mid-July without much opportunity to prepare for extended combat. With 750 NCOs from the division having already been transferred to the 24th and 25th Infantry Divisions as combat replacements, the "First Team" was stripped of practically ever NCO except the first sergeants in companies and gun batteries. Local garrisons were scoured for another 1,450 troops, including 100 from the Eight Army stockade, after which General Hobart "Hap" Gay's understrength, undertrained, and poorly-conditioned troops were sent to the Taejon-Taegu corridor to slow down the seemingly invincible In min Gun.Attacker: North Korean (9th Regiment, 3rd Division)
