Overview:
Charged with defending the outskirts of Brest, the German 2. Fallschirmjäger Division established a Vorpost (Outpost) defense which utilized fortified hills as the core of the defensive outpost line. Hill 103 was part of this Vorpost and became a critical objective for the 29th Infantry Division. The Americans would repeatedly assault the hill from August 26th to September 3, 1944. On the 27th, the American 175th Regiment would attack the hill simultaneously from the northwest and from the south. A platoon of M4 Shermans from the 709th Tank Battalion would provide much needed armor support.Attacker: American (1st Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division and Company A, 709th Tank Battalion)
