Overview:

In Operation CLEANSER, Major General Bertram's 5th Canadian Armoured Division attacked north to prevent the Germans from withdrawing to the Grebbe line. His main spearhead bypassed German units that offered resistance, leaving them for the trailing infantry to eliminate. On 16 April, Generalmajor Alfred Philppi's 361st Volksgrenadier Division launched a night attack against the Canadians at Otterlo to avoid Hoffmeister's encircling maneuver. Acting on limited intelligence, Philippi was unaware that the Canadian 5th Armoured Division Headquarters, long with several batteries of artillery had occupied the village. Confused heavy fighting lasted all night and as dawn broke, the battle raged on. After sunrise, German Infantry guns and mortars moved forward to plaster the Canadian battle positions with more fire. Canadian gunners fired desperately over open sights with fuses set at zero so their rounds would burst at close range and inflict maximum casualties.
Attacker: German (Battalions 1 and 2, Volksgrenadier Regiment 952, Volksgrenadier Division 361)
Defender: Canadian (Irish Regiment of Canada, 11th Canadian Infantry Brigade, 5th Canadian Armoured Division and 3 Troop, 617 Assault Squadron, 42nd Assault Regiment, 1st Assault Brigade, Royal Engineers, 79th Armoured Division)

2025-05-07(A) Michael Rodgers vs Bruno L'Archeveque Canadian win2.5 hrsVery tough for Germans. Their two INF guns are almost useless. I forgot that the Canadian could win by simply keeping two guns HIP. The Canadians didn't need them in our game.
2025-03-14(A) nathan wegener vs Doug Kirk Canadian winNo smoke to cover the assault no place to hide from either the guns or the 10-2 and MG. Raked everywhere and all the Germans broke and ELR’d. Pointless gun pushing and meatwaves. No fun at all as attacker. MM2025
2025-03-14(D) Dave Mareske vs Wes Vaughn Canadian winMarch Madness 2025
2025-03-08(A) Will Willow vs Randy Shurtz Canadian winGermans sent two thirds of their force sweeping from the north while the other third went south. Canadians set up back so no good prep fires for the Germans on turn one and the guns were moved for the first three turns. Canadian guns had set up south and were found by turn two. Two of them malfed. Despite that the Germans could not close this one out. Should have sent whole force straight into the village and then fan out looking for the guns.
2024-12-19(A) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins Canadian win1 hrsFirst to play and post.
