Overview:

The First Battle of Seoul had not been a battle at all, three days after crossing the 38th Parallel, the North Korean People's Army had blown the bridge across the Han River, effectively trapping soldiers and civilians alike still left inside the capital city. What followed was a campaign of systematic murder of the city's inhabitants. Three months later, General MacArthur's landing at Inchon had turned the tables entirely. The KPA was in full retreat, and the men of the US Marine Corps were in hot pursuit. On 25 September, the 1st Marine Division entered Seoul proper and paused to prepare for the battle ahead. In front of it lay the consular, business, museum and hotel districts of the city. On the night of 25-26 September, the KPA launched several violent counterattacks, all of which the Marines repulsed at great cost to the North Koreans. At daylight on 26 September, it was the Old Breed's turn at bat.
