Overview:
The Kursk offensive had been raging for a week, and while the northern thrust by 9. Armee had ground to a halt, the southern thrust by the II SS-Panzerkorps was chewing through one after another of the thick Soviet defense lines. It was now threatening to break through near the town of Prokhorovka, and the Soviets were forced to commit their strategic reserves. The climax of the battle of Kursk was at hand as the II SS-Panzerkorps collided head-on with the powerful Soviet 5th Guards Tank Army.
