Overview:
The Soviet drive northwards through Pomerania had two objectives. The first was to secure the flank of Zhukov’s planned drive towards Berlin. The second was to separate two German armies, the 2nd and 4th, in order to isolate and eventually seize the cities of Konigsberg and Danzig. In the path of the Soviet thrust was the town of Rummelsburg, one of the many small towns and villages the Soviets would need to clear on the way to the coast. The 4.SS-Polizei Division had been fed into the line to try and stem the Soviet tide.Attacker: Russian (10th Guards Rifle Division)
Defender: German (SS) (4.SS-Polizei-Panzergrenadier-Division)
