Overview:

As elements of the 3rd Marine Division pushed eastward to expand its beachhead on Bouganville, 1st Lt. Steve Cibik’s reinforced platoon was ordered to occupy a small knoll with a commanding view of Empress Augusta Bay. Shortly after arriving, the Marines routed a group of approaching Japanese, and at noon repulsed an organized attack. Cibik requested reinforcements which later arrived in the form of a 60mm mortar section. The Marines spent a quiet but nervous night. The next morning, however, things changed. . .
Attacker: Japanese (23rd Infantry Regiment, 6th Infantry Division)

2024-08-11(D) Dave B vs Vlad See American (USMC) winMost fights will be at very short range in this one. I never could figure out how the mortar could be reasonably used on this map. In the end, the USMC proved tougher.

(VASL Log)
The US had some bad luck with CC and the Japanese managed to avoid the mortar placement completely. As featured on IR62.

2017-07-01(D) Stephen dedier vs Hunter, Jim American (USMC) winAmericans take a beating but are saved by a hero manning the MG and going on a rate tear. Neither side has more than a handful of troops in the end but the Japanese cannot take all the victory hexes.

2016-05-17(A) Dwayne Duval vs Kevin Duval American (USMC) win
2015-06-01(D) Doug McMullen vs Andrew Highley Japanese winWell, I _think_ this is a fun and interesting scenario if played correctly. I believe the US set up is a test of the US player's ability to understand the scenario from the card. And unfortunately I failed the test :( -- Goal line stand was my recipe for fail. I'm convinced that extreme forward defense with a fighting withdrawal/delay concept is how this is supposed to be played from the US side. But I haven't tried it out yet.
2014-02-27(A) Martí Cabré vs Txema Mainez American (USMC) winI launched the Japanese in a frontal assault with a Banzai charge trying to quickly eliminate some marines in deadly HtH, but all the CC on both my turn and the next American turn resulted in the Japanese units eliminated and I quickly conceded the game.
