Overview:

On the evening of 2 August, fearful for his open left flank, Major Robinson pushed Ned Thornburn's D Company a half-mile to the east. Digging-in around the farm of les Grands Bonfaits, the company was later reinforced by two platoons of A Company, a section of guns from the regimental anti-tank platoon, and a squadron of Shermans. Next morning, an intense barrage heralded a determined attack by 9. SS-Panzer Division, "Hohenstaufen". The tanks' commander was an old desert hand who made the mistake of forming a tight "laager" for the night instead of dispersing the squadron. The opening barrage wreaked havoc. . .

2025-08-10(A) Vic Lauterbach vs JM German (SS) winI took the SS and went for a left flank attack using the large grain fields around 16H2 and 16K7 to shield my infantry and pushed the Panthers aggressively up to the walled farm at 16L6. The rocket OBA hit 33N7 very effectively! It broke the 8-0 with the radio in 33P8, destroyed a 57L and crew in 33N9, destroyed a Sherman and a Firefly and stunned a second Sherman. I brought the other three Panthers in along the stream and used them to push 16 Ptn aside and start pounding the 33R7 building cluster. Closing with the SS infantry is the key to this one. It seems like a waste, but the Panthers must pound buildings. Getting 658s near the VC building is very hard! I was up 65 CVP to 10 and still felt like I couldn't win (final count was 82 to 35 CVP in my favor). Jim breaking the radio twice and only repairing it once was big. The FFE:1/2 stopped my attack through the big 33T1 grainfield but also nailed a 457. My attack through the 33M5 orchard got two 658s to 33R8 and they hung on through Jim's final counterattack for the win. Jim: The scripted British setup gives the 150+ OBA lots of juicy targets, so I positioned my tanks to lure Vic into thinking he might hit all three Fireflies but miss the building with 8-0 and radio. Sadly, it didn't work and Turn 1 was a disaster. The 8-0 with the radio was broken and wounded, and the Panthers killed a second Firefly and a second Sherman. By turn 3, it was 'everything that can go wrong, did' for the British. It took four turns to get a (wounded) GO leader to use the radio while the Panthers killed the last few Shermans. Both snipers struck repeatedly, but Vic's sniper killed a 7-0 and broke three squads. My sniper got five pins. The infantry on both sides was tough, but ultimately the 658s prevailed. Good scenario but if the British OBA had fired the whole game, I would still have won. Give the Germans the balance.
2017-09-24(A) Tom Kearney vs Lindsey Murillo German (SS) winDespite losing three of my four leaders to the British sniper and losing four of my six Panthers, I was able to pull this one out in a nail biter. The most significant contributing factor was the failure of the British OBA; red card for the initial AR and then two lost contacts. This allowed me to get close and disrupt the British defenses
2004-06-20(D) Neil Andrews vs Gordon Stokes British winThe opening barrage Didn't reak havoc
