Overview:

As March 30th dawned, the U.S. 5th Infantry Division and the 3rd Armored Division advanced on the village of Menden in an effort to seal the encirclement of the Ruhr pocket. In front of the village, the 737th Tank Battalion found itself engaged by concentrated small arms and panzerfaust fire. Two large German tanks also opened fire, their bomb-like shells leaving holes in the ground as big as a car. Lt. Zipple's 1002nd SturmMorser Company was well placed atop the low rolling hills leading into Menden. **Everyone has always wanted a Sturmtiger scenario. This one shows why they were not the saviour of the 3rd Reich. If they hit, they are devastating, but they do not hit, or even fire, often.**

2025-03-30(A) Vic Lauterbach vs Jim M. American winJim wanted the Sturmtigers, so I got the elite US combined arms attacking force. This late war scrap on Board 3 played like a golden oldie (with Sturmtigers). It's a gem. I drove hard for the M9 woods to get around behind building 3N1. The HMG in 3M2L2 was big trouble until I hit it with WP, and Jim's 447s made a good showing early but wore down because of 2 ELR. Jim fired lots of PFs but hit only 1 Sherman, so I avoided the US CVP cap (final CVP US 34, Germans 13). Once I took building L4, I kept pressure on building N1 while I went for (and took) R5 and U6. Jim: This one was a blast, literally. I lobbed 380* HE rounds all over. One hit Vic's 10-2 and two 667s but incredibly all three passed a 4MC! My left flank defense depended on a fire lane from the 8-1 and 447 w/LMG in building Q7. When they pinned, GIs poured across the road and took Q7. I had to move the Sturmtigers and a SPW 251/21 up to protect buildings R5 and U6. The 76L Shermans killed all three AFVs and secured a US win. This was a great game with lots of twists, but US firepower carried the day.
2024-05-18(A) Herve Duval vs Guy Decrolier German winASL ring 2024
A balanced game. These sturmtigers are scary, at least until they have fired.
I made two mistakes. The first one cost me two squad and my best leader. The second one was a missed LOS that caused 3 squads moving in the woods to turn into just one broken HS thanks to 3 consecutive ROFs and not a single successful MC.
I took 2 of the 3 victory buildings but my forces were not strong enough in the final cc in the last victory building.

2020-08-21(A) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins German win
2020-08-21(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best German winWow...what a slugfest. Dan's Americans came in hard and took down the Sturmtigers, but too many squads were DM'd which slowed the American attack. In Turn 7 the Americans went after the back three buildings and took 2, but the 10-2 with two squads only reduced a 4-4-7 in CC and that was game. The Americans only got 2 of the three buildings needed. An unlikely German victory was the result.
