Overview:
On New Georgia, the US launched an entire Corps offensive aimed at the Japanese 229th Infantry Division which had been holding positions around Munda airfield. On the morning of July 25th, 14th Corps ordered the assault to begin. By 10 a.m., lead companies of the 172nd Infantry Battalion had stumbled onto an extremely tough complex of bunkers in the dripping rain forest.Attacker: American (F and G Company, 172 Infantry Battalion and Company B, Regimental Armored Reserve)
