Overview:

Churning over the shell cratered fields the Royal Engineer tanks of the British Hussars drove at the battered Hitler Youth. In an instant the attack carried them into the town and trenches of the SS defenders who were stunned by the sight of so many unusual vehicles...some spouting flame up to 100 meters...the young defenders hustled up the dreaded panzerfausts and the shooting match began!.....
Attacker: British (6th NorthStaffordshires | 13/18th Hussars)
Defender: German (SS) (1st Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Regiment, 12th SS PanzerGrenadier Division "Hitler Jugend")

2019-08-14(D) Jeff B vs Magnus Rimvall German (SS) win2.75 hrsWe played version 2, which makes a couple drastic changes to the scenario: allowing the British tanks to setup onboard, and forcing the Germans to setup solely on Board 43. This was evidently quite pro-German previous to this, now I feel it is strongly pro-British. For one thing the Brits now get a lot of immediate smoke capability. It also makes going for a quick exit with the tanks a highly viable strategy. In fact if I were the Brits I would drive their three fastest tanks straight up the gut and hope for the best. That doesn't exactly make for the most fun playing. I placed a large part of my infantry along the road to try and prevent this as best I could, placing the 9-2 with the PSK squad to direct fire and hopefully at least burn one tank. Thankfully Magnus did not try this (though he did drive one Sherman behind me to try and mess with routs) so we actually had a game of it. My mortar and 1.5 squads were guarding the enclosed plowed field. I had expected them to just slow down any Brits on the first turn, but they stuffed the Brits early and held their own well into the game, with my HS even flaming up the Crab. This ended up being the only AFV casualty as Magnus kept a respectful distance at all times. There was a LOT of rubble created pre-game, and it caused both of us no end of headaches. His Crocodile KIAd one of my squads (the 9-2 thankfully escaped broken but alive) and started an early flame in the woods just behind the grain. This shortly spread all over the adjacent area and really limited his endgame maneuvering. In the end my Germans held on for a decisive win.
