Overview:
The Soviet winter counteroffensive against the German 6th Army in Stalingrad had begun with a vengeance. After crushing the hapless Rumanians and Italians, the rolling juggernaut was threatening to complete an encirclement of German forces in Stalingrad. The temporary bridge over the Don River near Kalach was crucial to Soviet success -- as well as to the German survival. At the head of the Soviet 5th Tank Army's attack, Lt. Col. Grigor Fillipov was chosen to lead a strike force that would attempt to seize the bridge by coup de main.Attacker: Russian (Elements of 157th Tank Brigade and 15th Reconnaissance Battalion, 26th Tank Corps and elements of 14th Motorized Infantry Brigade)
