Overview:

Eighth Army designated the Canadian Corps as its pursuit corps and placed the British 4th and 2nd New Zealand divisions, the British 25th Army Tank Brigade, and the 3rd Greek Mountain Brigade. The Canadian Corps was to launch its assault as soon as the rains stopped. The Canadians stormed Coriano ridge on 13 September and the fighting lasted all day long and through the night. The 14th found the rubble-choked village strangely quiet as the Germans had pulled out, leaving the Canadians in complete control. With its left flank secured, the First Canadian Division was free to launch its attack across the Marano River. The West Novas managed to capture a bridge wired for demolition but intact and pushed towards the brigade’s objective, an oblique ridge topped by the villages of San Lorenzo. Three assaults separate assaults failed. The fourth launched on the morning of the 15th, this time with tank support and 6-pounders which were hauled up by hand during the night by the anti-tank platoon.

2023-03-08(D) Jeff B vs Scott Sherer German winWe knew this one would be difficult for the Canadians, and it was. Their main thrust came from the west, and they made it unimpeded despite more German shooting than I would'ver suspected. By Turn 3 they were ready to make their move on the first of the four stone buildings, but a HS with a LMG made the approach difficult, bolstered by one of the the StuGs. A Sherman which had the led the way up into the hills was fried by a PSK. When the Canadians did manage to get within striking distance they found the entire ground floor fortified and, let's face it, 8ML SS in fortified locations surrounded by mostly open ground against an only moderately numerically superior force are not going to be ousted. Scott said they may have a chance without the forts, and he's probably right, but the way it's written now there's just very little chance. Not the best scenario out there.
